In Manhattan’s East Village you’ll find Northern Spy Food co, a local favorite and standout. Everything about this place is environmentally conscious, with seasonal and locally sourced food, and built from sustainable products. They built and designed it using reclaimed and repurposed materials like dining room tables made from salvaged bowling alley lanes, and recycled wallpaper.

Adding some fresh fruit or herbs to water carafes like mint leaves or berries is an elegant touch when entertaining guests. I came across this arrangement on Donna Hay’s website, and the different sized carafes and subtle pops of color looks quite fabulous.

Ghanaian artist El Anatsui has been on the art scene for quite some time, with exhibitions at some of the worlds leading museums and galleries. He weaves beautiful tapestries using found and recycled materials collected from his environment, like bottle caps and gum wrappers. This piece is one of his woven metal tapestries, made entirely out of recycled materials from Ghana.

There has been a great deal of buzz surrounding the Elizabeth Taylor auction and exhibit that Christie’s has organized, and neither event will disappoint. Her famous jewelry collection and wardrobe of haute couture are featured, and a portion of auction and exhibition proceeds will go directly to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
